TIPS for ONLINE supervision

Why have ONLINE supervision sessions? The obvious answer to start with is convenience. You don’t need to be concerned with travel, parking or trains. You can even be spoilt for choice and have supervision with someone from a different country with different training, different experiences and different expertise. Sometimes the time zones can work out in your favour and you can book outside of office hours. With most internet services being secure and confidential there seems to be an opportunity to take advantage of this digital age to really embrace the diversity it offers.

You could browse and participate in mini chats with as many supervisors as you like. From there you could be in a better position to select a professional that ‘fits’ with you. However, you might be thinking here, but they’re on a screen, not in front of me; how can it possibly be the same? This is a fair question but one that may be used as a way to avoid the unfamiliar. As with most things it might be better to try it first before we make a judgement.

Most are shocked when they do try online sessions at how quickly the screen becomes irrelevant and how what you see, feel and hear instead becomes more important. Overall the online interaction itself could be eventually seen as equivalent to face to face sessions. It’s possible also to choose online sessions exclusively while others prefer face to face or a mixture of both. Either way which ever you prefer, there's no wrong or right way to have supervision sessions, there's only our own individual preferences.
