Self-awareness EXPLORATION through the senses before the client arrives
Developed by Lydia Sterry B.A (hons) M.A
In some ways our profession could be considered no different to other professions.
Actors warm up their voices to prepare for the stage.
They have a routine to follow that opens up the various tones in their voice to perform.
Ballet dancers spend hours visualising whole routines in their head before going on stage.
Traditional martial artists perform kuji-kiri to prepare for specific techniques. They concentrate on hand signals to adopt the ‘right frame of mind’ for the task at hand.
In some ways these particular preparations prepare them to engage physically and mentally with what they are about to do.
Have you ever considered how to prepare yourself mentally or physically before seeing therapy clients?
Have you ever considered warming up your senses and or creating space mentally to “open” yourself up, so to speak, for the therapeutic encounter?
This course explores how to prepare yourself mentally and physically before seeing therapy clients.
It mainly focuses on fine-tuning our 'alertness' before the client arrives.
The course content fulfils a unique reflection of the many areas that may need to be considered before the client has stepped through the door. It offers PRE-SESSION REFLECTIONS, for practitioners to prepare themselves before meeting a client.
The goal of this ONLINE VIDEO & POWER POINT program is to reflect deeply on your behaviours, thoughts, and feelings about a client you're about to see. This is then worked WITH through ‘sensory awareness’ explorations.
Overall, it focuses on being in a better position to be 'present' for the client and their predicaments.
Whether you’re a psychotherapist, psychiatrist, psychologist, chaplain, pastoral carer, rabbi, social worker, doctor, death doula, etc... you may benefit from learning this simple new approach.
